Fortunately there were no serious casualties but traffic was held up in both directions while local people worked to deal with the situation. Steve Gard, landlord of The New Inn at Cross, and Richard Tilley, a local tree surgeon, donned their hi-viz gear and worked to place bollards and control traffic while a first-aider from The Manor House B&B attended to the shocked drivers and passengers. Richard Parker - coincidentally a member of our campaign group - witnessed the crash and called the emergency services. Steve Gard has seen dozens of accidents at this black spot, most of which go unreported as there are no serious casualties.
Then on January 30th a motorcyclist and van were in collision at the notorious blackspot. The motorcyclist, Arron Dive, was taken to Southmead Hospital for surgery on his arm and leg. The van struck the motorbike so hard that the bike was embedded in the front of the van and it took four firemen to pull it out. Coffin Lane Campaign is very worried that there will be a fatality and once again, we call on Somerset County Council to take action to make this junction safe.
